Can you tell the difference between a pm Josefina and a Mattel Josefina?

I can post a picture of her on Thursday. (Daughter has my camera.)

She has Pleasant Company on the back of her neck.

    Thank you for any info.

Most Josefinas will be Mattel, since she was released only one year before the company was sold to Mattel, and all (to my knowledge) have Pleasant Company on the backs of their necks. But post a picture, anyway, and perhaps AGTeacher or someone else really knowledgable can tell. (I can give it a shot, too, but I don't pretend to be any great expert. Most of my dolls are pre-Mattel, though.)

My Josefina was just bought in the spring, and she has American girl on her neck. I was surprised by this because I also have a Mattel Felicity who's neck still reads pleasant company.

It's actually very easy to tell if a doll is PM. Check to see if she has a tag on her body. If there isn't, it's PM. If there is, it's Mattel. Check the eyelashes too. If there are a brownish color, and are nice and soft to the touch, then she's PM. If they're jet-black and prickly, then she's Mattel.

The eyelash test does NOT work on Josefina. PM Josies have stiffer eyelashes as well. The body tag is also not always reliable. The best way to tell is to hold her next to a Marisol or Nellie. PM Josies will have a narrower face, less pronounced cheeks, and a less pointy chin. In short, they will look more like the traditional mold, though still obviously different. They also have lighter skin than current Josies, and darker, easily tangled hair.
